Its been a while since I posted anything on here, but nows as good a time as any to start again. This semester I'm taking Visual Development and as my reference artist I chose Deanna Marsilgese. She's an Italian Canadian artist for animation who just a few years agao put out her first art book. I'm very attracted to the emotion she brings out of her characters as well as how she pushes her designs. My goal is to take her somewhat abstract, flat style and use it as a reference to make more animation friendly 3 dimensional designs.
For a story I chose Little Red Riding Hood but to add a twist I set it in Las Vegas in its heyday, the 40s. I've loved Bugsy Siegel since high school (I swear, me and my Jews..), so I thought I'd slightly parody his story with my project.
Here's some pics of my reference artist, all property of Deanna Marsiglese:
Pretty sweet. The first character I chose to do was Red. I wanted her to be a Vegas stripper as well as the lady of a mob boss. My first pass:
There's still a few tweaks I want to make, and I would also like to draw her in different poses. And don't forget, her "basket" of "goodies" :
aka tickity tack ho purse. More art and concept sketchins coming soon!
